èsjé Designs is an African inspired jewellery, accessories and clothing brand created by self-taught designer Sanya J.



Growing up in a house with her mother's boutique and an in-house tailor, it was inevitable that Sanya J's love for fashion would manifest itself sooner or later. Coming from an African background, any creative tendencies has to be put on the backburner and thus a degree in Computer Science was pursued.​

 

In 2007, she bought her first sewing machine with the hopes that she retained some sewing knowledge from years of observation at home. It turns out she did. She began to make clothes for herself, especially for weddings. In 2008, she decided to take a short City & Guilds course in Creative Techniques which she excelled in. She has since undertaken a course in Fashion Drawing and continued to sew. Lately, her passion for jewellery and accessories have come to the forefront and voilà, the èsjé designs brand was born and infuses her Sierra Leonean roots with her British culture.
